The European Union has launched a new climate change initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
According to EU officials, the initiative will focus on increasing renewable energy production and improving energy efficiency across member states.
The move comes as part of the bloc's efforts to meet its commitment under the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius.
The European Commission has set a target of reducing emissions by at least 55% compared to 1990 levels, with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
EU leaders have emphasized the need for collective action on climate change, citing the devastating impacts of extreme weather events and rising sea levels.
