The European Union has launched a new climate change initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

According to EU officials, the initiative will focus on increasing renewable energy production and improving energy efficiency across member states.

The move comes as the bloc seeks to meet its commitment under the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

EU Climate Commissioner Frans Timmermans said, 'This initiative is a crucial step towards achieving our climate goals and ensuring a sustainable future for Europe.'
