Leaders from the EU's 27 member states gathered in Cyprus to discuss the wars in Iran and Ukraine, as well as the bloc's long-term budget. The two-day meeting began with leaders greenlighting a €90 billion loan to Ukraine and agreeing to more sanctions on Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined the summit, saying the funds would help strengthen his country's army and domestic production of drones and electronic warfare systems. He also praised EU leaders for their unanimity in approving the loan.
The meeting also touched on the war in the Middle East, with leaders discussing the impact of the conflict on global energy prices and inflation rates. The EU executive is set to discuss its long-term budget for 2028-2034, aiming for a €2 trillion budget.
