Ahead-on collision between two local trains occurred near Hillerod, north of Copenhagen, on Thursday, leaving 17 people injured, with five critically hurt, authorities said.

Police received alerts about the crash at around 6:30 a.m. (0430 GMT), and emergency services were mobilized in large numbers to respond to the incident.

The cause of the accident is currently unknown, but police officials have confirmed that everyone on board has been evacuated from the trains, with no one trapped.

Denmark's transportation system has a reputation for being safe, but this crash casts a shadow over it. In 2019, a train crash left eight dead and 16 injured, while in August last year, one person died and 27 were hurt after a train collided with a slurry tanker and derailed near the German border.
