The creators of the C64 Ultimate have announced a follow-up version, the Commodore 64C Ultimate, which accurately replicates the original 1986 computer using an FPGA chip. The new model features a welcome facelift and is compatible with '80s-era peripherals.
The reborn Commodore reacquired exact injection tooling molds used to manufacture the original's plastic housing 40 years ago, ensuring authenticity. The C64C Ultimate also carries forward upgrades like Wi-Fi, USB, and HDMI port for connecting it to modern displays.
Priced starting at $299.99 with shipping expected as early as September, more premium versions add LED lighting, translucent case, and gold keycaps, going up to $499.99.
