A woman died after falling from her room's balcony on the Carnival Firenze cruise ship off the coast of Southern California, officials said.
The incident occurred on Monday while the ship was docked at Catalina Island. The woman's family was traveling with her and alerted the crew to the incident.
Carnival Cruise Line spokesperson Julie Leonardi said the company is supporting the guest's family and that law enforcement came aboard the ship to collect information, a process she called customary.
The woman's identity has not been released. Her family was able to depart the ship and return home.
