The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is conducting an enforcement period from Tuesday morning to Wednesday evening, targeting speeders and unsafe drivers on state roads.
According to the CHP's news release, officers will pull over vehicles that are speeding or driving unsafely during the 27-hour period, which started at 6 a.m. Tuesday and ends at 5:59 p.m. Wednesday.
The enforcement effort aims to reduce the number of serious and fatal crashes caused by speeding, which accounted for more than 110,000 crashes in 2025, resulting in over 400 deaths and injuring more than 68,000 people, according to preliminary data from the CHP's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System.
The CHP has also launched a pilot program with the Department of Motor Vehicles to fast-track removing drivers who exceed 100 mph in speed. In 2025, the agency issued over 491,000 citations for speed-related violations.
