A low-pressure system has moved out of Southern California, paving the way for a heat wave to hit the region this weekend. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures will rise 5-10 degrees over the next few days, reaching the 70s and 80s in valleys by Friday.
Ocean breezes are expected to die down, leading to warmer conditions along beaches. Temperatures could jump into the mid-80s and low 90s during the weekend, with the hottest days being Mother's Day on Sunday and Monday.
The National Weather Service recommends staying hydrated and avoiding the sun during the hottest part of the day. If going outside, wear protective clothing and SPF to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Temperatures are expected to cool down next Tuesday and Wednesday, dipping back into the mid-70s and mid-80s. There's a chance for heat advisories on Sunday and Monday, but that decision will be made by Friday or Saturday.
